Storytelling Tools for Land Use and Growth Scenarios

Storytelling through 3D visualization can be a great tool for communicating the impacts and tradeoffs of various land use scenarios and growth strategies. Many innovative, helpful technologies exist. Explore the role some of them, like ArcGIS Urban, can play at the larger urban scale.

Two case studies showcase 3D visualization and storytelling. Spanish Fork, Utah, near the Salt Lake City metro area in the Wasatch Front Range, is facing rapid growth and the challenge of accommodating new households in a context-sensitive way. On the other hand, Louisville, Colorado, located in the Front Range, exemplifies population decrease and challenges related to high living costs and scarce attainable housing options. In both cases, 3D visualization tools had a great impact on communicating high-level planning decisions.
