Using Data to Manage Public Spaces

The past few years have solidified the key role that public spaces play in community members’ quality of life. Concurrently, there has been a call for governments to make more transparent funding decisions and to reconsider how funding is allocated to address institutional racism that resulted in areas of disinvestment.

The cities of Boston, Denver, and Seattle realized that to adequately meet these demands they needed more information and better tools. Parks representatives from each of these cities discuss tools they have developed or purchased to collect and analyze data to drive decision-making. These tools include GIS systems analyses, AI software, and big-data databases. They share early findings from those processes.
