The Central Park redevelopment plan was state-of-the-art 30 years ago, advancing emerging ideas around sustainability, inclusivity, financing, urban design, and brownfield development. The planning process involved balancing many competing interests to reach a politically acceptable outcome. Since the plan’s adoption, the neighborhood has evolved in ways not necessarily anticipated at the time, but always advancing the plan’s overall goals. Explore the methods used to overcome political challenges and how new ideas have been incorporated as the neighborhood has built out.
