Northglenn, Colorado’s journey to creating a fully net zero City Hall wasn’t a straightforward path. Initially, sustainability wasn’t the project's main focus. However, with evolving community values, fiscal considerations, and growing environmental concerns, the City Council shifted priorities. This workshop explores the challenges of integrating sustainability into an existing civic plan, including balancing financial constraints, navigating political and public support, and aligning the project with broader climate action goals.

Gain insights into the strategies Northglenn employed to overcome these challenges, such as leveraging innovative financing models using existing tax revenues, securing grants, and implementing the CORE Green Building standards (including a rainwater cistern system under the new city hall building). Presenters highlight how Northglenn’s approach to regenerative design and social equity became central to the project's success.
