Candi CdeBaca, MSW
Former Denver City Council Member, Advocate & Consultant
Candi is a policy expert, community organizer and social worker with over 25 years of experience with grassroots organizing, community power-building and mobilizing individuals and groups. With a vast array of experience in founding organizations, training, curriculum development, nonprofit management, organizational culture change management, federal oversight, municipal budgeting, strategic planning, public speaking, writing, marketing and communications, and therapeutic counseling and coaching, she leads through an empowerment-based approach that elevates the most affected populations as the experts and decision-makers. Candi is a fierce advocate for justice and a solidarity economy where housing is a human right, food is a public utility, and all utilities are consumer-owned. In her advocacy and organizing work, Candi challenged poor governmental planning decisions related to the Central 70 expansion, 39th Avenue Greenway, National Western Center, Brighton Boulevard, marijuana zoning and many others.
Candi was previously the Denver City Councilwoman of the ninth district which at that time included downtown and near northeast neighborhoods. Prior to council, Candi was Co-Founder and Executive Director of Project VOYCE, Co-Founder of GES Coalition, Co-Founder of GES Community Land Trust/Tierra Colectiva, Co-Founder of Ditch the Ditch and Co-Founder of DenverCAN.
