Christopher Gomez, AICP, serves as the Commissioner of Planning for the City of White Plains, NY which is currently undergoing a building boom with over 7,000 multi-family dwelling units, including 600 affordable housing units. During his tenure the city has adopted a new city-wide affordable rental housing ordinance, and the implementation of various adaptive-reuse and transit oriented development regulations. Chris shepherded an innovative three-year public planning process that resulted in adoption of the city’s dynamic new comprehensive plan: One White Plains, that will serve as a community-based development vision to guide sustainable growth over the next 15 years.
Chris previously served as the Director of Planning and Development for the Village of Port Chester, NY and as an Associate Land Use Planner with the Westchester County Planning Department. Chris has a degree in architecture and urban studies from Lehigh University and a Master of Planning degree from Columbia University. In addition to achieving professional certification by the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), Chris maintains credentials from the National Form Based Code Institute, National Development Council, and National Charrette Institute.
