Andrea Garfinkel-Castro, PhD, is founder of Transport Futures, a nonprofit advancing research, policy, and practice leading to sustainable transportation and just mobility. Its premier project, Crosswalks Academy, is engaging citizen scientists and community leaders to create safer walking conditions in low-income neighborhoods, while collecting data. With this data, Transport Futures will host an open-access website, sharing their rigorous empirical data widely with planners and municipal decision-makers to increase the funding and implementation of life-saving measures. Demonstrating a longstanding commitment to social and environmental justice, her doctoral research explored planners’ role in America’s equity ‘talk-walk gap.’
