One of Littleton, Colorado’s priorities along this corridor has been to celebrate the history and character of the area while still encouraging growth. Seeking a balance between resident needs, historic character, and ever-evolving trends presents challenges, but is vital to moving forward intentionally and effectively. In response to changing trends and resident needs, the city has undertaken two long-range planning efforts.
Due to aging infrastructure and the loss of all street trees in downtown because of disease, the city felt it was important to look at these issues collectively. In response to both issues, the city undertook Project Downtown, a plan that developed streetscape and pedestrian designs that could be implemented during utility work.
The second effort is a subarea plan focused on Littleton Boulevard. The planning and engagement efforts are underway. They are assessing and gathering feedback on land use, economic development, housing, transportation, and historic preservation. By taking a holistic approach to the planning effort, staff hopes to create a clear vision for the corridor and provide immediate and long-term implementation strategies to guide future growth and evolution along the corridor.
