Ben Hitchings, FAICP, CZO, is the Principal of Green Heron Planning, LLC based in Durham, North Carolina, and a fellow at the UNC School of Government. A former planning director for the towns of Chapel Hill and Morrisville, North Carolina, he is a current member of the APA Board of Directors. A fluent French speaker, Ben has traveled extensively in Europe, and is a member of APA’s International Division. He is a co-author of the 2021 APA PAS Report titled Smart Cities: Integrating Technology, Community, and Nature, and the 2024 publication from the UNC School of Government titled Managing Disruption in a Rapidly Changing World: A Briefing Book for Decision-Makers in North Carolina.
